Completing Courses

Dg & Safety offers web users the ability to complete CASA-accredited online dangerous good training.

To be able to complete courses, users require a unique Login ID and Password. Both methods will require you to create a unique password. Please take note of the Password that you create - you will need it, plus your Login ID, to log in to your course.

There are two ways to obtain a Login ID and Password:

1. Corporate Customers

If you are a corporate customer, you will have been sent an email containing a login id and a link to create your unique password.  Don't forget to make a note of the password you create! Once you have created your password, click on the 'login' icon, enter your login details and complete your course.

2. Private Registration

If you are not a corporate customer and you require CASA-accredited dangerous goods training, you will need to complete the online registration and payment process process. Registering for a course is easy!

  1. Click the Register button on the left side of the Home page

  2. Click the Start Registration button at the bottom of the page

  3. Select the correct course for your needs. If in doubt, please ask your employer which course best suits your needs

  4. Follow the prompts to register and pay for your course.

You will need to create a unique password as part of the registration process. Please take note of the Password that you create - you will need it, plus your Login ID, to log in to your course.

After the registration process, an email will be sent to your email addresss containing:

The email will not show your password, as that is a secure item. Click on the 'Login' icon in the email, enter your login details (this will be the login ID in the email and the unique password that you created when you filled out the onlline registration form). You can then start your course.

The process is the same if you are already a Dg & Safety student and you need to undertake your recertification. Simply follow the steps above, and when you get to the page asking if you are an existing Dg & Safety student, select "Yes" and enter your details. You will need to enter the same email address that you used for your previous course. If your email has changed since then, contact us at and ask us to update your record.

Q. How long does the course take?

A. It depends on you! There is no set time limit for completing the course modules. Some people will finish the course in about 2 hours, while other might take around 4 hours. As a general rule, it will probably take about 2.5 hours. We recommend that you take your time, go at your own pace, and thoroughly read the material. You can log in and out as often as you need to when you are doing the modules and the course will pick up where you left off. However, once you begin the final exam, you must complete it in one sitting.

Q. Can I print off the course material so I can refer to it later on?

A. No, you cannot print the modules. Dangerous Goods information changes on a regular basis. While Dg & Safety regularly checks and updates the information in our courses, as soon as it is printed it becomes uncontrolled. While you can print some of the tables and graphs to make it easier for you to refer to them while you are doing the course, they must ONLY be referred to while you are doing the course.

We do not enable printouts of the course material because we cannot risk people referring to out-of-date course notes that they may have printed off years earlier, particularly if they are referring to the lists, tables or packing instructions from those notes. Once you complete the course, you must refer to your employer's current Dangerous Goods Manual and a current copy of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations.

Once you have successfully completed your final exam, you cannot log in to the course again except to access your certificate. This is because the State regulatory authority (in Australia, this is CASA - the Civil Aviation Safety Authority) requirements are that you always refer to the Operator's dangerous goods manual. The manual will be specific for the company that you work for and should contain the most up-to-date information regarding dangerous goods.

Don't worry! The course you have completed is an 'awareness' course, not a 'memory' course. Once you pass the final exam, you should always refer to your employer's Dangerous Goods Manual and a current copy of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations.

Q. Do I have to complete the course modules in one go?

A. No. You can log out and back into the course modules as many times as you want. When you log back in again, after a time away, the system will remember where you left off.  However, once you begin the final exam, you MUST complete it in one sitting.

Q. How do I get to the final exam?

A. Once you have completed all the course modules a link to your final exam will appear. To access the exam, simply click the "Go to Final Exam" link. Remember! - the final exam must be completed in one go.

Q. What can I expect in the final exam?

A. The final exam is multiple-choice, very similar to the revision questions at the end of each module. Questions are randomly selected from a pool of questions pertaining to each module. The pass mark is 80 %.

If you are not sure of an answer, don’t panic! There are links to the relevant module in each question. You can always go back to the module and check the information.

Make sure that you only use the navigation tools in the course and NOT your web browser back & forward buttons. For example, use the links to the modules in the exam question to navigate to the module you need to check. Once you’re done, use the “Go back to Exam” button on the left side of your screen to get back to your exam. If you don’t use these navigation tools, you will not be able to complete that exam. The system will generate a new one with different questions and you will have to start a whole new exam.

Q. Do I have to complete the final exam all at once?

A. Once you begin the final exam, you MUST complete it in one sitting. If you leave the final exam partway without finishing all the questions, the system will assume that you are not going to finish that exam and it will not record a mark. Instead, it will generate a new exam for you with a different set of questions.

Q. Do I only get once chance to complete the final exam?

A. No. If you fail the exam, or if the unthinkable happens and your computer/tablet shuts down while you are in the middle of the exam, another exam will be generated for you by the system. Simply go the the “Final Exam” button on the left side of  your screen and you will be taken to a new exam with a new set of questions.

Q. How do I get my certificate after successfully completing the course?

A. After successfully completing your course, a page will open with a link to your dangerous good certificate. Click on the link and save your certificate to your digital device. You can also print a hard copy.

Once you have passed the final exam, you can log back in to access your certificate but you will not be able to log back in to the course modules.
